RE:  Follow Up on Availability of Model for Neighbors at the Community Center

Dear Tom,

At last night’s Children’s Citizens Advisory Committee meeting, your staff had a handout advertising the availability to view the model of your proposed expansion on two dates in October at the Laurelhurst Community Center.  No one from the hospital has been in touch with the Community Center to make arrangements to have the model on display.  I’m “cc”ing this message to the Community Center staff so that you can follow up.

We are concerned about Children’s continued lack of coordination with the Community Club.  The Laurelhurst News is distributed monthly and there is no time to alert our neighbors to the availability to see the model at the limited times you have offered to make it available.  Our next newsletter goes to the printer next week and will not reach neighbors until after the first date you have listed, and possibly will not reach neighbors before the second date.  Could you please mail your flyer to our community?  We can provide information about our mailing service which could provide mailing labels to the 3100 who receive our newsletter.

You indicate in your flyer that your staff will be on hand to provide an update about your proposed development.  Will the two dates you have indicated that your model will be on display be public meetings?  If so, you will need to coordinate with the Laurelhurst Community Center staff to ensure that appropriate space is available.  And, there must be some means to provide public notice.  Please provide further information.

Finally, we are puzzled why you plan to make your model available to communities far removed from the impacts of your proposed development when it is the neighbors of Laurelhurst who would like to have access.   Have heard from Rainier Valley, Rainier Beach, West Seattle, Beacon Hill and the other neighborhoods you have listed about their interest in having your model on display?   The clear implication is that you do not want Laurelhurst neighbors to see your model and get involved in the master planning process.

We would appreciate a prompt response to the questions we have raised.
