RE: Laurelhurst Community Center Expansion
Dear Mr. Goldberg,
Thank you for the excellent briefing you provided to our Board of Trustees at its February 9th meeting regarding expansion of the Laurelhurst Community Center. We worked long and hard for two years attending dozens of meetings to comment on criteria for selection of projects to be included in the ProParks Levy and then to convince the committee to include our community center in the levy—the only remaining community center listed as a priority in the 1993 Parks Complan that had not received funding. Finally, as a result of voter approval of the ProParks Levy in 2000, our time has come and we are looking forward to working with you as the process moves forward to expand our community center.
We appreciated the background information you provided about the Parks Department public involvement policy and how the project advisory team will be established for the project. We will do our best to inform our neighbors about the opportunity to participate through our monthly newsletter and email alerts and through our popular website. We hope to work closely with our community center advisory council with joint meetings. As this process moves forward, we would like to feature a community survey on our website, similar to what was done in Montlake, to ensure that our neighbors have a voice in changes to the facility.
In the meantime, please keep us informed as issues arise and how we can implement a community survey on our website. If you intend to nominate our center as part of the Historic Preservation Program, we would appreciate receiving a copy of the application to review.
Thank you again for attending our meeting.
