The Laurelhurst Community Club (LCC) Board of Trustees is very appreciative of the excellent landscaping services you have provided to our community over the past many years on the planted median on Mary Gates and NE 41st Street. You have always been there for us for maintenance needs whatever they may be, staking up our fragile Holly Oaks after windy storms and most recently installing our rocks. Most recently, we appreciate your assistance in helping us in planning for new vegetation on the median. Thank you!
We have recently convinced the University of Washington to step up to its maintenance responsibilities under neighborhood matching fund grants that paid for installation of the planted median years ago. We have also recently been negotiating with the new owners of the 18-acre Battelle property, which abuts part of the planted median and they have agreed to share in the expense of the maintenance cost for the portion of the median and the pedestrian refuge island abutting their property. Could you please provide us with an updated bid on our new maintenance responsibilities as outlined below?
The University has agreed to assume maintenance responsibility for the portion of the median from that area adjacent to Laurel Village on Mary Gates that ends at 36th NE, about at the border of the Center for Urban Horticulture. We have provided the University with specifics on the work you have performed to ensure that the work they do meets your standards, as well as the community expectations.
The new owners of the Battelle property have agreed to pay ½ of the maintenance expense for the pedestrian refuge island on Surber and the median along side their property up to the end of the median at the bottom of Suicide Hill—a portion of LCC’s maintenance expense.
What we need is a bid for services from 36th NE until the bottom of Suicide Hill where the planted median ends. We also need you to apportion your bid to divide it between the maintenance expense from 36th NE until Surber (not including the pedestrian refuge island) and from the refuge island to the end of the median. Finally, please include in your bid the annual maintenance expense for the entire irrigation system and apportion the fees adjacent to the Battelle property. With the portion of your estimate dividing out the maintenance and irrigation expenses adjacent to the Battelle property, we will have the information necessary to seek reimbursement from the new owners of that property.
