The Laurelhurst Community Council has had a very active year.  Here’s a brief summary of our major community activities:

Public Safety

  • Managing the LCC Security Patrol. The  second year of the LCC Security Patrol was launched on March 1, 2026. The program has been well received by the neighborhood as a way to aid in reducing neighborhood crime and providing increased protection. 
  • Attending Seattle Police Department North Precinct meetings to stay informed of city-wide happenings that can affect our neighborhood.

Land Use and Tree Preservation

  • Monitoring developments at the former Talaris site where Seattle Public Utilities purchased the land to investigate restoring the creek culvert for salmon habitation.  Working with the Seattle Landmarks community and Historic Seattle regarding site.
  • Working with the developers and the University of Washington on proposed construction and tree preservation at the UW Laurel Village housing project, where the University is constructing 341 new housing units. 
  • Working with the developer, Quarterra, at the former Safeway site to discuss traffic and infrastructure impact for this new 796-unit apartment complex. 
  • Reviewing and commenting on the new Seattle Comprehensive Plan for future zoning and expansion of multistory units. 

Transportation

  • Connecting with the Seattle Department of Transportation to discuss transit corridors for the area, which will have over 1,000 new residential units.  

Landscaping and Parks

  • Maintaining the medians on Mary Gates Way/NE 41st Street and completing Phase 2 of the Boulevard Restoration Project using grant funds LCC obtained from the Department of Neighborhoods. 

Other

  • Keeping members informed through, Constant Comment emails, the LCC website and our monthly newsletter.
  • Delivering a Welcome letter to every new Laurelhurst resident.
  • Collecting more than 1,200 pairs of socks, hats and gloves for donations to Mary’s Place and the Pioneer Square University of Washington clinic.
