LEAP (Laurelhurst Emergency Action Plan) has prepared the neighborhood to cope with a major disaster by creating an Emergency Communications HUB. Drop by LEAP’s open house where four tents will be set up on the lawn to demonstrate how the HUB will function as a central gathering place to give and receive information and support following the loss of all normal methods of communicating.
Volunteers with LEAP will demonstrate how the HUB operates, and informational brochures on preparing for an earthquake will be available. Knowing that COVID risks still exist, wearing a mask will be optional, but encouraged.

This national event Tuesday evening, August 2, is for neighbors to enjoy time together on side streets in their community to connect and share food while heightening crime prevention awareness. To register your block for the event or to find an event near you for National Night Out, use this link.

Both the Montlake Cut and I-5 South areas are likely to create frequent construction obstacles and travel nightmares as work continues on SR520 and I-5. Transit could be a great option.

Metro routes 31/32 depart Seattle Children’s Hospital on NE 45th St. and conveniently stop near Safeway/U Village, the new Brooklyn light rail station, and all the way to Seattle Center.
The City of Seattle provides free Covid-19 testing through the University of
Washington. The test site is just off Mary Gates Memorial Drive at 4113 Franklin
Place NE. Testing is by appointment and is walk up only. Daily 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Schedule an appointment – note that testing does not meet pre-surgery requirements. The City
will bill your insurer, but testing is absolutely free if you are uninsured.
The One Seattle Day of Service is an invitation from Mayor Harrell “to every Seattle neighbor to roll up your sleeves, come together, and give back…. A wide range of opportunities include cleaning and beautification, gardening and restoration, helping neighbors in need, and more.”
